Minne remembers what you work on and writes from it — in Slack, Gmail, X, Notion, anywhere you type. In your words. On your machine.

Minne read the thread, remembered that the dinner moved, and answered the way you write.

Can we talk before I fly out on Friday? I still need the budget.

9:43

Also — Ada asked whether the team dinner is Wednesday or Thursday, do you know?

Message Ingrid Berg

Thursday, 14:00 at the office? That leaves time to go through the Q3 budget before you fly. And tell Ada the dinner is Thursday too — it moved when the Wednesday booking fell through.

Any chance you're free early next week to go through the retry logic with me? Whenever suits — I just don't want to guess at the numbers again.

Tuesday works — 10:00? Good timing: the new retry numbers land Monday, so we can go through them together instead of guessing like last time.

What did you land on for retry backoff in the billing migration? Exponential with jitter, or fixed windows? Asking because ours just fell over again.

Exponential with full jitter, capped at 30 s, five attempts. Fixed windows stacked the retries on the minute and took staging down twice. Final numbers land Monday — I'll write it up.

Oslo move — as it stands today. The budget goes to Ingrid before her Friday flight. Lease dates are still open: the landlord owes us March or April. Ada takes the billing migration first, then the office setup. Team dinner moved to Thursday, 14:00 at the office.

Nothing is typed into the app until you press Insert — and ⌘Z takes it straight back out. The same key, the same panel, in every app on your Mac.

It watched the work.
Now it's a folder of notes.

While you work, Minne reads the words in the window in front of you — never a picture of your screen — and keeps what matters as plain notes in ~/Minne. People, projects, decisions, days. That folder is what the drafts are written from.

  • Plain markdown files on your Mac. Open them, edit them, delete them, take them with you.
  • No tagging, no “capture this”. It remembers the work you were doing anyway.
  • Nothing is stored anywhere but your Mac — no account, no server, no cloud copy.
Your memory, as it sits on disk: notes with names you recognise, in a folder you own.

The short version.

Price
Free. MIT licensed, and the source is yours to read.
Runs on
macOS 14 and later. A menu-bar app, no window to keep open.
The key
Right-Option, in any text field. ⌥ Space opens a chat with your memory.
The AI
The one you already pay for — Claude or ChatGPT with your own sign-in — or Ollama on your machine.
Your data
Stays on your Mac. No account, no Minne server, no telemetry. Card and ID numbers are blanked before anything is saved; password fields are skipped.
Undo
Nothing is inserted until you press Insert. One button erases every note, for good.
What leaves your Mac, exactly

The only network traffic Minne makes is requests to the AI provider you signed in with — your account, your key — plus one anonymous version check a day against GitHub, which you can turn off. There is no Minne server to talk to, and no telemetry. This is what each feature sends, and nothing else goes anywhere:

draft
the field you are writing in, the window around it, and the notes Minne recalls — one model request.
chat
your question, and the notes the answer needs.
sync
recent captures, in batches, already masked, to be distilled into notes.
sign-in
one OAuth exchange with that same provider. An API key stays on your Mac and is shown to no one else.
updates
once a day, an anonymous ask to GitHub for the latest version number — nothing of yours attached, and Settings can turn it off.
never
the folder itself. No backup, no cloud sync, no upload path in the code.

Want even that to stay home? Point Minne at Ollama on your own machine and model traffic never leaves it.
